See how United Methodist campus ministries are enriching the lives of students at Hamline, MNSU Mankato, University of Minnesota Duluth, and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
The Wesley Center's 2019 "Do All The Good" Pathways group of eighteen new Hamline University students engaged in a variety of civic engagement opportunities over the course of four busy days. On campus the group toured food access sites and attended workshops on diversity, leadership, spirituality, and sleep. There were also opportunities to explore surrounding communities, such as volunteering at Hamline Elementary, visiting Dar al-Farooq mosque in Bloomington, and touring the MN State Capitol. The Wesley Center's entire staff and the Hamline AmeriCorps VISTA staff were involved in facilitating this Pathways program, including University Chaplain Nancy Victorin-Vangerud. The Wesley Center looks forward to further connecting with these and other new Hamline students over the course of this academic year
The Wesley Foundation at MSU Mankato continues to minister to students with weekly Sunday evening gatherings and monthly worship services lead by the WF worship band. The students also continue to build community by participating in extracurricular events such as Trivia night. While the search for a campus minister continues, others are stepping up to ensure that the Wesley Foundation moves forward.
United Campus Ministry started the year with prayers for backpacks on the first day of class and a new Sunday night worship called Devo & Dinner. D&D is followed by dinner provided by local churches, and then there's time to study together! UCM continues to host Coffee and Christ on Thursdays at lunchtime, and a mid-week check-in. We're also excited to team up with Habitat for Humanity this semester on a house-building project in Duluth.
Pastor Lauren and Wesley Foundation student leaders connected with many new students at the annual "Explore U" Fair over labor day weekend. They invited interested students to attend worship on Sunday nights as well as discussion group and covenant group meetings that take place throughout the week, on or near campus. Wesley students love to plan and participate in community events like game nights, movie nights and the upcoming Halloween party. In late September, students built deeper relationships during the annual fall retreat at Camp Koronis in Paynesville, MN where they enjoyed the opportunity to rest and reflect in the midst of a busy semester. Student officers are growing into dynamic leaders as they organize and run many aspects of the Wesley ministry.
